May 2011: Bena is such a cutie. She is 7 years old and wants to be a teacher when she grows up. She likes playing with dolls and she is of the Luo ethnic group. Bena lives alone with her mother, Pudesta Aweno, who works in the stone quarry. She also makes paper beads, but she doesn't have a market to still them in. Bena has 6 siblings but most of them live in the village with the grandmother. One lives next door and his wife, Caroline, is pregnant. Bena's family is originally from the Tororo region of Uganda, and they now own their house in Kampala, which is made of mud. Bena's mother has a huge personality, and she is always screeching and smiling and talking loudly. Bena, much shyer, seems to look at her mother with an embarassed tolerance, which is really cute. This month Bena was able to participate in a field trip to Wonder World, an amusement park, and was given medication for de-worming and a new shirt, which she wore to church the next day.
